Our scripture this morning is ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭24‬-‭26.

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Paul writes that through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus we are able to put aside the temporary earthly things that cause us to sin. He tells us that “those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires”. These things can lead us away from what we are called to do.

Jesus taught us to focus on others more than ourselves, caring for their needs and making sure all hear the Good News of God’s kingdom. When we compare ourselves with others we may “become conceited, provoking and envying each other”. Instead, let’s make sure they know the joy we have found in our savior.

We are taught to “walk by faith and not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). This means not letting the things of earth distract from our commission to make disciples of all nations. When we follow the path Jesus has set for us, we can live by the spirit He sent, loving God and each other.

Heavenly Father, we are grateful for the gift of Your Son, sent to love and save and free us. Bless us to go in Your name to tell everyone of the gift of salvation we have received. Amen.
