Our scripture this morning is Titus 2:11-14.
For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.
Paul writes to his fellow missionary Titus with uplifting words for his ministry. He tells him (and us) that if we “live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God” we can ask forgiveness and reconnect with Him. God made us in His own image to be in relationship with Him and each other.
Jesus lived, died and rose again that if we put our faith in Him, we can be made new and go in His name to share God’s love with the world. Paul says He came “to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds”. What might the world look like if we all were committed to sharing His teaching and His care?
God sent His Son to change our hearts and minds, that through His sacrifice we could be free of the sin that distracts us from the work of the kingdom. God wants all His children to know His love, and while He needs no help from us, He calls us to be part of His plan for our salvation. When we go in faith, we prepare ourselves and the world for Christ’s return.
Loving Lord, we ask forgiveness for the times we choose our own way instead of the path You have shown us. Help us to focus on what is truly important, our connection to You, and to love our brothers and sisters as You first loved us. Amen.
