Our scripture this morning is Romans 10:9-13.
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Paul gives us the most important instruction for salvation – “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”. God sent His son for us and we know from His own testimony “no one comes to the Father except by me” – John 14:6. Jesus has shown us the way, we must choose to follow Him.
Paul quotes scripture from two prophets in this passage. “Anyone who trusts Him will never be disgraced” is found in Isaiah 45:17. “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” comes from Joel 2:32. Both of these verses teach us that only a relationship with God can bring us to eternal life.
We know we can’t save ourselves. It is only through the free gift of Jesus our savior that we can be forgiven and made right with God. Consider how you can be in closer connection with Him today and always.
Loving Lord, You are the maker of all things. Help us to be faithful workers for the kingdom and share Your love with all of Your children. Amen.
