Our scripture this morning is Zechariah 14:6-9.

On that day the sources of light will no longer shine, yet there will be continuous day! Only the Lord knows how this could happen. There will be no normal day and night, for at evening time it will still be light. On that day life-giving waters will flow out from Jerusalem, half toward the Dead Sea and half toward the Mediterranean, flowing continuously in both summer and winter. And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day there will be one Lord—his name alone will be worshiped.

God created us to live in harmony with Him and each other. Our sin marred that relationship, but God loves us too much to leave us separated from Him. The prophet Zechariah tells of the coming of the Day of the Lord when that connection will be fully restored.

This end times vision states that only the Lord knows when and how this will occur, something Jesus taught us as well (Acts 1:7). The Lord will return and we must always be ready. Until then we must choose Him and live in His love every day.

This passage closes with the promise “the Lord will be king over all the earth.” It’s not that He isn’t – He has been, is and will always be the King! However, on that day all will realize His majesty and those who have chosen him in love will join Him in their eternal home.

Heavenly Father, we are amazed at Your love and care for us, even when we fall into sin. Help us to see that Your love and forgiveness overcome all our failures. Bless us to go in Your name to spread the Good News! Amen.
