Our scripture this morning is Ephesians 3:14-18.
When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.
Paul always prayed for his congregations, that God would keep them safe from physical and spiritual trials. His letters to them are full of his joy at their success and pain when they stumbled. He knew that only God’s love and care could protect them.
Paul prays “that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit”. We all need God’s spirit with us to stand against the evil that waits for a weak moment in our lives. We can’t do it on our own.
We hear that when our hearts are right “your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong”. This is the only way for us to be saved. Choosing a relationship with Him is the most important thing we will ever do.
Loving Lord, we are sorry for our willful disobedience. Bless us to be Your children, strong in Your love, and send us to share it with everyone. Amen.
