Our scripture this morning is Hebrews 4:10-12.
For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall. For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
Paul reminds us that God has promised rest to all those who love Him and obey His commandments. This means a constant connection to our Creator. It also means we have responsibilities to fulfill.
Jesus said “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life” (John 10:10). He wants us to begin that here on earth but the rest God promises is eternal. It is hard for us to fully appreciate what that gift provides.
God knows everything that happens to us and still expects us to live according to His covenant with us. God will never abandon His children or His part of the bargain. However, it is our choice to return His love and to share it with everyone.
Gracious God, You have blessed us with everything and promised that those who love and obey will be with You in eternity. Help us to go in Your name to share this blessing with the world. Amen.
